SPATIAL FORMS COMPETITION - POLAND

The first part of this Festival will consist in the exhibition of 10 monumental spatial forms located in the streets, squares and waters of a town of Poland from the beginning of June to the beginning of October 2011. Five designs will be selected in a competition. The other five designs will be realized by the invited, widely appreciated sculptors. The second part of the Festival will encompass such events as sculpture symposia, sketch and painting workshops, performances and happenings in the open public space between July and September 2011.
The competition is open to all professional sculptors and students of sculpture departments of artistic universities.
The forms shall be:
- inspired by the the theme of Freedom.
- at least 4m high
- designed to place them on the ground or water;
- shall be noticeable (in form, colour);
- shall be resistant to water and weather (sun, rain, wind) for at least 4 months;
- shall be resistant to destruction by third parties.
TIMELINE
31 March 2011: deadline for design submission
10 April 2011: results announcement
29 - 30 April 2011: artists visit to locations during seminar „Sculpture in Public Space”
8 - 31 May 2011: creation of the forms
1 - 3 June 2011: mounting of the forms in the locations
4 June 2011: opening of the exhibition
4 June - 4 October 2011: the exhibition
15 June - 15 September 2011: public contest for the most spectacular form
25 September 2011: results announcement for the public contest
4 October 2011: closing of the exhibition
PRIZES:
The main winner shall be awarded with the amount of 1000 Euro and invitation to realise the design.
The two winners of the second place shall be awarded with the amount of 500 Euro each and invitation to realise the design. The two winners of the honourable mention shall be awarded an invitation to realise the design.
The authors of all the designs qualified to realisation shall receive remuneration for creation of the forms of 1000 Euro (after the realization).
The organisers shall cover costs of materials and services necessary to erect the forms to the limit of 1000 Euro brut. In justified cases the amount might be higher.
All the forms erected in the public spaces shall take part in public contest.
The artist who’s form wins the public contest shall receive award of 1000 Euro brut.
All the authors, who’s designs are qualified to realization shall be invited to the town between 29 and 30 April 2011 in order to visit spots for the realisation of their designs. The organisers will cover travel expenses (up to 200 Euro for European, up to 400 Euro for non-European travels) and cater for accommodation and provisions for the artists. All the authors, who’s designs qualified to realisation, shall realize their designs between 8 and 31 May 2011. The organiser covers accommodation and provisions for the artists. The artists shall cover travel expenses on their own from the money award. If agreed with the organisers in advance, the spatial forms may be constructed elsewhere and transported as ready for mounting.
The works become ownership of the organisers (agreement on transfer of author’s copyright).
