INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM - CANADA

A not-for-profit company organizers the international sculpture symposium. Completed sculptures will be permanently installed in different communities around.

Symposium Location: The waterfront of a Canadian City.

Symposium Dates: August 7th, 2014 to September 20th,2014. The selected artists will be expected to arrive at least 3 days before Symposium begins and remain on site until conclusion of the closing

The organizer will be inviting 8 international, national and/or regional artists to participate in a six-week stone sculpture symposium that will result in the creation of 8 large granite sculptures which will then be permanently installed in public spaces.

What the organizer to The Selected Artists: the organizer will provide the selected artists with:
Transportation to and from local airport or other agreed airport, up to a maximum value of $2500 Cdn, based on one economy-class round-trip ticket supplied;
Meals;
Accommodation (private rooms close to work site, with shared bath facilities, laundry facilities and common areas);
Local transportation;
6000 Cdn/4.430eu/5,900usd. honorarium, payable in 2 equal installments, at the opening and closing ceremonies of Symposium;
Assistant: up to six artist interns/students, to be cooperatively shared between the artists
A suitable work site, necessary utility services, materials and certain tools, including:
compressed air; water; electrical supply (110V 60 Hz); air hoses and electrical cords; hard hats, dust masks, safety goggles and ear protection; large power tools; heavy equipment for lifting; canopies to shelter the artists' work areas from sun and rain; and secure storage space for artists' tools.

Symposium Stone: the organizer will provide granite blocks
The granite will be taken from old grout piles. Alternatively, artists may choose their own pieces from the quarries. Artists should be prepared to adapt their conceptualized proposals, to take advantage of the sizes and shapes of stones available. Generally, pieces longer than 3 meters will be too large to move. The maximum weight of any individual stone that can be selected is 10 tonnes.

The selected artists must also supply their own personal tools such as hand chisels, pneumatic hammers, durable work clothes, work gloves and steel-toed boots.
