INTERNATIONAL MARBLE SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM – COSTA RICA

Francisco Castro Lostalo, representing Toronto Art Visions and the International Association of Monumental Sculpture Events (AIESM) in relationship with an cultural association of promotion, an University, and a Municipality announce the International Monumental Marble Sculpture Symposium. The Symposium will take place in a City of Costa Rica from September 17 to October 6, 2013
Each selected participant in the symposium will produce a monumental sculpture celebrating "The Spirit of Diversity".
Materials and Equipment Participants will be required to bring the following tools to the symposium: Hand tools including hammers, pneumatic hammers, chisels, blades, etc.
Each participating sculptor will be provided one block of white marble from Guatemala, measuring approximately 2 meters (78 inches) high by 0.7 meters (28 inches) length by 0.7 meters width. All work submitted must be figurative or include an identifiable figurative element. Work that is purely abstract will be rejected.
Each sculptor’s work area will include: An awning properly identified with the flag of their country of origin A banner displaying the name of the artist, country of origin, sponsor’s logo, and part of the artist’s portfolio Access to an air hose or compressor An electrical connection for power tools A table to hold the tools, model of the sculpture, and portfolio Lighting for work and for entertainment activities that continue after dark Access to water for drinking and washing
On-Site Assistance To Sculptors Through the support of the University, a group of art students will provide general assistance and support to participating sculptors during the symposium.
Compensation Each participating sculptor will receive: Accommodation and meals during the symposium. An honorarium of 4,000 usd Transportation from international airport and return. Local transportation between hotel and symposium site. One or two day trips or excursions to points of interest. Participants will be responsible for their own travel arrangements from their country of origin to Costa Rica and return, and to pay their own costs for such travel.
Concurrent Exhibition Of Participants’ Work Each participant will have the option to bring to the event one or two small sculptures that they have created, to be included in a concurrent exhibition and sale. The work can be in any medium including but not limited to resin, wood, metal or stone. The entire proceeds of such sales will be paid to the artists.
